On Wednesday July 14th, Sabir Mohammed and Seema Sheikh, originally from Karachi, Pakistan, were uprooted from their home and deported to the U.S. where they still face deportation to Pakistan.

The Sheikh family has arduously worked to rebuild a vibrant life in their Parc-Extension neighbourhood since obtaining refugee status in 2001. Now, Canadian immigration authorities have abruptly ended their new life here.

Today, Ashrah Sheikh (26 years), Tayyaba Sheikh (23 years), Sami Sheikh (21 years) and Canadian-born Sabrina Sheikh (5 years), have been forced to make a life for themselves in Montreal without their parents. Canada’s deportation of Sabir Mohammed Sheikh and Seema Sheikh is in clear violation of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child to which Canada is a signatory.

Today we are demanding that Canada’s Immigration Minister reunite the Sheikh family and grant them status now!
